The idea was born from a vacation.
The idea for The Horticulture Camera began with a real problem I experienced firsthand. I was in the final stages of growing some prized Wedding Cake when I needed to leave home for a birthday vacation. I went to great lengths just to give myself some control and peace of mind while I was away, when all I really needed was a reliable way to see what was happening and make sure my plants were being watered. That experience revealed a major void in the growing industry: growers needed a simple way to remotely monitor and control their environment. What started as a personal problem became the inspiration for a much bigger solution.September 2021
I hit the drawing board.
By September 2021, I had completed my initial patent search, begun working with a great patent attorney, and started developing the design. The core concept was becoming clear: a camera and sensor-equipped power control box capable of automatically controlling different utilities based on how the grower programs it. Everything would come together through one app, one interface, and complete mobile control from virtually anywhere. The system basically gives and takes power away to the different utilities based on operator design.October 2021
Patent No. 12,348,909 was filed.
When I first started this journey, I had no formal business experience—just natural business savvy, determination, and a willingness to take risks. I knew it wouldn’t be easy or cheap, but struggle was nothing new to me, and I was ready for the challenge. I’ve always believed that fortune favors the brave and that it’s better to try and fail than never try at all. So I went all in, filing a full non-provisional utility patent for what I believed could become the first true horticulture camera system designed to give growers total control and peace of mind.January 2022
I start to reach out to my favorite companies in home horticulture.
After filing my original patent, I believed licensing might be the best way to bring my idea to market. I reached out to companies such as AC Infinity and Vivosun, hoping to discuss the concept and explore working together, but my attempts largely went unanswered. At the time, I didn’t have the resources to build the system myself, so I continued looking for opportunities to get my idea in front of the right people.July 1 2025
My Patent was approved.
On July 1, 2025, the U.S. government officially granted me my full non-provisional utility patent for The Horticulture Camera Grow System, marking a major milestone in turning my original idea into legally protected intellectual property.September 29 2025
Much time passes and I go on TV.
September 29, 2025 — Go Fund Yourself I flew to Los Angeles to appear on Go Fund Yourself, excited and hopeful that this could be the exposure needed to take the company to the next level and connect with investors. Although the appearance didn’t generate the reach I had hoped for, it became another important chapter in the journey and strengthened my determination to keep moving forward. However, the perspective companies I had reached out to were watching.2026
The smart controller and grow camera concept takes off.
Smart controllers and grow cameras quickly gained momentum, with four leading home-horticulture companies adopting smart-control systems and two introducing their own grow-camera concepts. What began as a new concept was quickly becoming an industry standard as growers increasingly wanted remote control and peace of mind—the ability to monitor and manage their environment from anywhere and confidently be away for longer periods of time. Based on my patent analysis, the systems offered by the two market leaders appear to incorporate elements corresponding to 14 of the 15 claims in my patent, providing strong market validation for the concepts I began developing years earlier.Current Time
